My venture into pure abstraction

These are some of the first paintings that I was able to resolve after beginning my involvement with pure abstraction. There are many reasons why I chose to go in this direction but the main reason is because I wanted a direct connection to the main aspects of being a artist. This meant eliminating all external reference and subject matter outside of working directly with my materials in my studio. At first it was a incredibly challenging experience for me to focus on this objective way of seeing. My first paintings went through so many changes that I was painting paintings on top of paintings. Simple gestures in my first work started off becoming figurative and therefore metaphorical which looked like hell. Working across the grain was a way of beginning a process of reinforcing a more refined vision of balance and perfection.Through following this simple technique I was able to Begin to realise form based on truth.
